• Name: Diane Lane
  • Date of Birth: January 22, 1965
  • Place of Birth: New York City, NY
Mini-bio: She began acting professionally at the age of six at the La Mama Experimental Theatre in New York where she appeared in acclaimed productions of Medea and The Cherry Orchard, among others.

...( read more) At 13, she made her film debut opposite Laurence Olivier in A Little Romance, and at 14 was featured on the cover of Time.

One of the few child performers to make a successful transition into adult roles, Lane made a hit with audiences in the back-to-back cult films The Outsiders and Rumble Fish, and for a time was designated a member of the so-called "Brat pack." However the two films that should have catapulted her to star status, Streets of Fire and The Cotton Club, were both box office flops and her career languished as a result. It wasn't until 1989's hugely popular and critically acclaimed TV mini-seies Lonesome Dove that Lane made another big impression on a sizable audience (she was nominated for an Emmy Award). She won further praise for her role in 1999's A Walk on the Moon, opposite Viggo Mortensen.

In 2002 Lane was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress for her performance in Unfaithful, and was honoured for her work in that film by The New York Film Critics and The National Society of Film Critics. She followed that up with Under the Tuscan Sun (2003), based on the best-selling book by Frances Mayes.

One of the BEST ACTRESSES OF OUR TIME.

I especially liked Diane Lane's performance in "Unfaithful" - she was a revelation in that film. I first saw Diane in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Outsiders" (I think she's 18 y/o in that film).

She's so gorgeous! She's even more sexier than her "Outsiders" days. I think she said in some interview or something that she doesn't mind aging in films. That's a good one. :-)
