Not bad, the take on Atlantis was certainly original, but it still isn't the best Disney film. Michael J Fox was the perfect choice for the voice of Milo though.

I love the ocean, and I am fascinated by tales of Atlantis. This tale of Atlantis is downright weird! It is an enjoyable movie, but it has some strange parts that will leave you wondering what were they thinking.

I don't get why this got so many bad reviews. I consider it to be one of the last Disney masterpieces created. It's a family film, if you're looking for something a bit more substantial then why are you watching this?

It's Good. This is the last Disney artistic masterpiece before everything went downhill(that doesn't include Pixar team films)Everytime that one watches, it resembles those films from Disney's good old days(sigh)

I bought Atlantis: The Lost Empire, with a couple other recent Disney films; Brother Bear was the first film we watched. And my son had already watched Atlantis without me, but since I had never seen it, I made him watch it again, which he didn't seem to excited about. For a Walt Disney film, it's incredibly underwhelming. It has their typical animation style, which is always welcome, but the story is boring and the characters forgettable.

Milo Hatch, played by Michael J. Fox, who I really miss as an actor, has a lifetime dream of finding Atlantis. His chance comes when a well funded exploration group asks to him to lead them. Luckily his grandfather left him a book, that only he can translate, which leads them directly there. After taking a huge submarine through the depths of the ocean, than a convoy of military vehicles deep into the center of the earth, they find the lost empire Atlantis. There, Milo meets a beautiful princess, whose society is crumbling around her. The military guys, have alternative motives for wanting to find Atlantis, and they steal everything not tied down. Milo, the princess, and a motley group of explorers he's befriended along the way, take it upon themselves to stop them.
For some unexplainable reason, Atlantis: The Lost Empire never grabbed my attention. It had all the usual Disney elements, in the right order, but I never cared in the least what happened to any of these characters. Some of the animation is really cool, there's a couple of beautiful sequences; I especially liked the submarine vs. the giant robotic sea-monster scene. But something was missing and the film never feels cohesive. And it wasn't just me, my 4-year-old noticed too. For a good film, he'll sit enraptured, and asks to watch again the next day. With this, he was distracted through most of it and hasn't asked to watch it since.

Disney continued its plunge from beloved family entertainment institution to clueless, soulless hack corporation with this embarrassingly misguided mess of a would-be animated sci-fi adventure. To be sure, there's plenty of competence on display, from the adequate (though seemingly deliberately ugly) animation to the passable voice talent... but 'adequate' in this context is hardly good enough, especially since 'Atlantis' carries itself as though it's the most amazing, funny, heartwarming, thrilling flick you've ever seen. As with many other Disney flicks from this time period, it tries to manipulate you into submission with in-your-face effects, obnoxious comic relief and shallow plot twists rather than simply earning its stripes honestly (say, with a decent script and solid direction). It doesn't help that the storyline 'borrows' quite liberally from Hayao Miyazaki's animation classic 'Castle in the Sky' and still manages to come up with nothing interesting to say.

Mature plotline, screenplay and characters but "mature" doesn't have to mean "boring" and the rythm definitely flops from time to time.

Overall, awesome idea, awful execution, but not the hideous flop everybody talks about.

Interesting, but very bizarre for a Disney movie. Not to mention that I can't believe it squeaked by with a PG rating when it should've been PG-13.

Something about the voice acting and the animation of this film just fit. And also the style was a little unusual which gave it a nice feel.

A Disney movie without dumb songs and even dumber animal sidekicks...what a relief! This movie has its ups and downs:The action is set around 1914 or so-women weren't so emancipated back then(Audrey,Mrs.Packard,Helga-she seems Sharon Stone in Total Recall),submarines like that existed only in Jules Verne's works,The Mole character is too Uncle Fester-like,the characters are undevelopped, the pacing is so fast that the story gets lost in the way(I had the impression at times that I felt asleep and missed some action),it borrows from a lot of movies and the plot has holes big enough to shelter Atlantis itself.I don't think that kids will understand the whole story but it seems a computer game,it's full of action and great landscapes,it has nice effects and animation, incredible music,an interesting idea though it's not an original one,a few good laughs...And I liked that there wasn't too much focus on the romance.Oh,by the way,who wrote that journal and how come the healing power of the crystal couldn't help Milo get rid off his glasses? In conclusion:not a Disney classic but it's worth a watch...

I got about half-way through it while running on the treadmill. This is one of those movies where you scratch your head thinking, "Why did Disney make this movie?" Probably because people like me will be foolish enough to check it out from the library just because it's "Disney".

    Not a bad animated flick.

It was written by Joss Whedon so it's not too bad.

I enjoyed it. Although I would've loved to see it in live-action.

"A Little Bit of Everything Is Going On Here" This movie def does not meet the Disney standard that we all expect to see. More than half of the film was bizarre. Along with that the cast of characters were all odd to me and didn't fit the time period of the 1900's. THEY WERE SURE QUITE THE MOTLEY CREW. The voice overs for the characters were good but not memorable. I liked the fantasy feel to it, but more should have been done to make this worth watching.
