Cool animation. Not a movie for l children, or even pre-teens. It can get a little scary and graphic at times. It is worth seeing.

This film is worth seeing, if only for the amazing computer images. This very life-like tale is a phonomenally creative piece. You'll recognise stars even if you didn't know they appeared in the film.

The storyline at times was hard to concentrate on, but that only goes to show the detail that went into the film.

Quite surprising the certificate for this film is just a 12 and there are some pretty violent scenes, certainly not one for the young children to watch.

Based on an Old English heroic epic poem..as many are.

"..You want your name in The Song of Beowulf?.."

Ah... where do I start. DONT WATCH THIS.

Stupid fucking movie. However the visual effects is quite good.

"..the film was created through a motion capture process similar to the technique used in The Polar Express.."

The images were realistic, its good to see that the performance capture, captured the actors/actresses features etc..

Not too bad in that department.

    The film lacked the "WOW".

This movie was really good, but it will be like any other film that has you shaking your head in the end going, "Why did it have to end like THAT?"; It is a tragic tale, but it still is worth watching.

was kinda good until it strayed away from the story from the book. The best fight from the original story was beowulf vs grendals mother and thats completly skipped over, and the dragon fight is almost boring. the grendal fight is kinda exciting but it feels anti climatic. all in all I just didnt really enjoy watching this movie. but thats just me.

Beowulf is a movie that functions on several different levels, combining the musclebound, "wink-wink" sort of quasi-satire observable in The Scorpion King with just enough depth and resonance to place it on a similar dramatic level as the televised production of Merlin, and perhaps a few levels above The Fellowship of the Ring or The Two Towers. In response to the protests that are bound to ensue following any such percieved slight to Rings supremacy, I can only say this: watch the two of them back to back, and then note which of the two (or three) had the most resonant characters. In the quite possible instance that that seems to be a draw, go to question B: which was the most fun? And if you reach a draw there, I'd suggest watching Beowulf a little less seriously, look for the humor, and enjoy the dramatism when it comes.

Beowulf, was an amazing action adventure flick. I loved the computer animation visual effects that were in this. It had pretty good intense fighting sequences that were pretty violent; especially for a PG-13 rating. All actors on screen was brilliant; especially Ray Winstone who played Beowulf.
The story takes place in the year of 587 where a mightiest warrior Beowulf,(Ray Winstone) has come to kill a monster named Grendel, (Crispin Glover); which has been killing innocent people. Grendel, can't stand loud noise. It irritates him so much; especially having a ear that can hear noise far away. Grendel's mother, (Angelina Jolie) has looked out and watched every single thing that her son has done. One night Grendel, comes back while; Beowulf is staying with the people. Grendel, faces off with Beowulf in a violent battle. As Beowulf was fighting Grendel, Grendel was killing most of Beowulf soldiers and the people. Beowulf, beat Grendel by punching and damaging Grendel's ear and tearing off his arm. Grendel, was still alive until he made it back to his place. Grendel, died while his mother was singing to him. Now, Grendel's mother is out for revenge, looking to kill the one that they call Beowulf. Grendel's mother kills alot of the people. Now, Beowulf has another battle against Grendel's mother; which she isn't going to be easy to kill. The only warrior that can try to defeat her is Beowulf.
This movie was kinda entertaining. It kinda dragged towards the middle, but it picked up towards the end. I watched the unrated version and i guess thats what made me like it more cause it showed more violence. I heard that the original version is boring cause it didn't show no violence. So, if you're looking for a movie with a great amazing story with tallented actors, then i recommend this one for you. If you're looking for an action movie, then you need to look somewhere else.

It wasn't that the story was bad or the casting job was bad it's the fact they animated the entire story. Why go to the trouble of casting Angelina Jolie or Anthony Hopkins if you are going to animated them. They lost so much from each of the characters by doing this. It felt like I was watching one of those little cartoons in a video game that I almost always skip over. They're boring. So Beowulf as a story gets 4 stars but this movie just wasn't doing it for me.

It was boring, I didn't like the style, and I didn't care about the characters. The only thing I liked was the monster from the beginning.

Robert Zemeckis is one of the most talented directors of his generation. Unfortunately for him, his peers, such as Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, have overshadowed him for much of his career. Fortunately for us though, despite this, he has continued to produce top quality films in nearly all of his many endeavors. Beowulf is no exception. Applying a combination of live actors and CGI graphics seen in the children's holiday film Polar Express, Zemeckis is able to deliver an as-to-now unseen medium for storytelling in the action/adventure/fantasy genre. The CGI characters show believable facial expressions and body movements, when this is paired with some spectacular and astonishing action sequences, that only CGI could make possible, the end result is truly jaw dropping. Some may complain that the subtleties and imagery of the epic poem on witch the film is based have been thrown to the wayside, and replaced with violence, gore and Hollywood-type stunts. This may be true, but I was never a fan of the original Beowulf. I thought that it lacked edge. This film, however delivers lots of edge, in fact several edges slicing through the air to pierce your jugular! Fans of the fantasy genre have few quality films to choose from once the LOTR series is subtracted from the equation. This film, in my opinion, can be added to this small group. My only two complaints are that the story seems too short, and that I didn't get to see it in 3d in the theater. P.S. For fans of the original poem, PBS produced a mini-series more faithful to this work that you may be interested in (snore).

The CGI animation was both stunning and at times distracting in this action packed movie. Most of the time the CG effects were brilliant and the film took advantage of this by having some unique camera angles and shots that could only be achieved with CGI.

The "actors" looked very realistic although at times the illusion failed but on the whole this was a stunning effort. Angelina Jolie was especially well done! (8.10.08)

Beowulf was an eye thrilling adventure filled with heroes and villains. I enjoyed Robert Zemeckis's film direction, Ray Winstone's acting was superb as usual as was Anthony Hopkins, Angelina Jolie, Robin Wright Penn, and Crispin Glover. I highly recommend this film to any Lord of the Ring fans, and to people who love medieval movies. The only major disappointment I have about this film is the quick pace the film takes you on, I feel that there was a major gap between when Beowulf was younger, to when Beowulf was older as a king. This film was pretty entertaining but I felt like there was never really any answer to what happens in the end, and that is for the people who haven't read the story.

Wow! So this is what the millions spent on visual and computerized effects have brought us too. What a failure of a movie(if you can call it that). Read the story forget this tale.

Terrible. I saw the 3D version in theatres and they way overdid the 3D thing. It was like, "Look what I can do!" Who cares? Apparently they were focusing on that so much that they forgot to act.

Best animation ever seen! Huge epic action! ... In 3-D, that action is hurled in your face. ... Grendel is disgusting ... Angelina Jolie is gorgeous, and naked!

The CG kept pulling me out of the story. I felt like I was watching one of those Barbie movies sometimes. It made it hard to get into. CG just isn't good enough yet to make entire movies out of yet.

A guy's movie combined with animation to make a classic story come to life. And at times the characters will look so real, it'll be hard to tell it is animation.

I am wondering whether or not the way the movie ended whether or not there could be another sequel? Like discovering his mistress was pregnant with his son.

It's a pretty bad movie. But still fun, since it's finally an "adult" 3D film. The visuals though aren't that great, about 5 seconds looked really awesome, other than that it was an ok cgi film. Besides that the score by Alan Silvestri is awesome and the movie title song is the best since years. Finally a really great old school Hollywood song.

This movie wasn't my favourite for the year, but it was one of the more unusual. The beginning of the film was slow, but I felt it finished on a high, with the dragon scene. I must also give it thumbs up for using most of the actors real appearences in CGI, which was also well done.
