For a "realistic" war movie this film isn't very engaging. Ewan McGregor - and Eric Bana especially - give the best performances, but you never feel that the soldiers won't make it back. Perhaps if the threat was greater and some more major characters were killed off it would have been more interesting.

I have seen this movie countless times but I felt compelled to write a review tonight. I was at work bored and twiddling my thumbs, a 18 wheeler pulled up and a fairly young trucker hopped out. We must have talked for an hour.

He's been home from Iraq for about a year. He was part of a rapid response unit in Baghdad and beyond. You know...one of those guys that get called when the shit hits the fan...and they need to make a precise drop of "boots" to an altercation.

He would repel from Black Hawks to hot spots in Iraq. Secure locations, re-enforce units already engaged or hunt and dispatch/capture insurgence.

His unit and several others were called to action. A lead Humvee was hit by an IED and they were also taking small arms fire. He and several others flew to that location and took up a position on a rooftop.

He was wounded and almost died when a RPG hit part of the structure. Several friends in his unit died from shrapnel.

He was injured so bad that he spent a few months in a German hospital before he was stable enough to fly home. Some of his friends were not that lucky. Did I mention this "boy" was 24 years old at the time, on his second tour?

Of course it reminded me of this movie. Though I haven't really reviewed this movie so far...just know if your one of the Few that haven't seen it you should.

Based on True events in the Battle of Mogadishu, in 1993 . Directed by Ridley Scott, Black Hawk Down shows us the courage, honor and valor that is the US Military. God Speed Brothers....IM glad I have a job that I can be bored at.

I found this one of the most decent war films in recent times, the acting was good but the script seemed to lack originality, the direction and cinematography was extremely well done, which makes this a really good film.

Not his finest but Ridley puts on a great show here. I wasn't overly enthralled with the whole things but this is an intense ride that really shows some great visuals in terms of what modern warfare might be like.

BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST INTENSE WAR COMBAT MOVIES EVER MADE. TRUE STORY INFACT, AND IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HATE BILL CLINTON'S MILITARY RELATIONS, YOU WILL AFTER SEEING THIS MOVIE. EIGHTEEN US SOLDIERS AND OVER 500 SOMALIANS WERE KILLED DURING WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN A 30 MINUTE SEARCH AND CAPTURE MISSION. EVEN SO, I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE. I'M A SUCKER FOR COMBAT MOVIES, AND THIS HAS GOT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST MODERN COMBAT MOVIES MADE. IT FULL OF ACTION, AND NOT A DULL MOMENT IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE.

"Based on a true story" is very relative with some movies. Basicly this is just propaganda and it's dull all the way through. I've had to go through it twice and actually fell asleep ten minutes into the movie the second time. My advise is to not see it but that's just me.

A total knockout. A raw, kinetic and relentlessly exciting action-thriller. A powerful and exhilerating movie experiance. An excellent movie. A breathtaking masterpiece. Director, Ridley Scott put's you right in the battle. The cast is awsome, each and everyone of them bring something great to the table. Josh Hartnett, Eric Bana, William Fitchner, Jason Isaacs, Tom Sizemore and Ewan McGregor are outstanding. Non-stop spectacular action at every corner. Intense, amazing and remarkable. A deeply moving, electrifying, explosive, effective and satisfying military drama. One of the most engadging and and riveting film experiances I've ever had. Truly and utterly ungorgettable.

The true story of the United States' involvement in Somalia during an ill-fated humanitarian mission. On October 3, 1993, U.S. soldiers entered Somalia on an exercise that was supposed to take less than an hour. The mission turned into a nightlong battle against thousands of heavily armed Somalians. Eighteen U.S. soldiers and more than 500 Somalians were killed as a result of this conflict. This retelling of 1993's botched and bloody Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia is patriotic yet honest..

Black Hawk Down Pictures, Images and Photos this is an awesome action/war movie. its very sad one though. it has an outstanding cast with strong performances. the action was very intense & realistic. sometimes it makes me feel a litt oozey when i see the brutal war scenes. they contain violent images of gore which is not very pleasant to see but thats how war is. overall this is a great entertaining war movie. i recommend this movie for war/action fans 5/5 stars

Very good movie, strong acting and just well.... good! It brngs a light to what those young men had to go through when they were over there. The extra's on the DVD are very captiovating as you see the actors talk and spend time with the actuel young men that were over there.

Fantastic cinematography, great action, well defined characters, beautiful sound design and the editing carries the film from one scene to the next in a superbly balance flow that ties everything together. Basically, if you enjoy war movies check out BHD.

I need this just to see why Brendan Sexton hated how it turned out so much, because at the time he was a member of the ISO and thought the politics got mangled.

Best war movie ever. Why??? Because their is no message. It doesn't try to make some big political statement about war. It just presents war as it is. Brutal, confusing, loud, and fast. Josh Hartnett stands out of the cast. He gives a very subtle and understated performance. The rest of the cast is decent even Orlando Bloom. Ewan McGregor is his usual annoying self.

Despite his presence, Black Hawk Down is an instant classic.
