Will Smith is one of those actors that has come to grow on me over the years, the main turning point being his amazing performance in I Am Legend. Smith always brought exactly what his roles called for. The other factor is that all his movies seem to make crazy amounts of income regardless of their quality, which makes him one of the most advantageous movie stars.
Taken from imdb.com, the synopsis for Hancock is something like this: "John Hancock (Will Smith) is an unhappy and reluctant superhero who is living in his own world. For some unknown reason, Hancock is depressed and has started drinking very heavily. He has saved many lives in Los Angles over the years, but in doing so, he has no regards for damaging buildings, trains, roads, cars, or anything that gets in his way to get the job done. The last time he captured several criminals, it cost the city $9 million to fix the damages. The public has had enough of Hancock, and they want him to stop or go to another city. Then one day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman). Ray is a Public Relations executive who now can go home to his wife and child, because Hancock was there. Ray owes Hancock his life, and he makes it his mission to change his superhero's image and have the public cheering him."
Last time I asked my friend to check the Hancock rating in RottenTomatoes, it only had 35% which is pitiful. But I don't give a shi* that critics went rough on Hancock inadequately. What I really know is I was pretty keen on it. Hancock is NOT just a customary superhero flick. Once again, Smith brings exactly the performance that his particular character needed and what everybody's asked for. He got himself into John Hancock with all his predicament and he did portray it perfectly.
Though this isn't a comedy film, but we still have decent jokes here which cause us decent laughs as well.
Enough already about this movie's strong point. There still are some weakness which are quite disturbing. The first is the adversary and I must've underlined that word. I know Hancock is more a character film than superhero film, but it contains a man with extraordinary power, which make it at least a part of superhero movie, am i right? Well, I don't expect a super-villain againsts the superhero like Batman VS Joker or sorts. But at least, an adversary which is more compatible and reasonable. There is action sequence in this movie, but not a good one. Bad guys who reunited together after their asses got kicked by the mighty Hancock, decide to go after Hancock for revenge. What the heck, I mean they would've known than Hancock is invulnerable! And the next thing I know, they're shooting the bulletproof Hancock with machine guns. Could they morons be any more stupid?
So I heard that the film originally titled ?Tonight He Comes?. They should be grateful they didn't put up such name, because believe me, if they do, this three and a half stars would never occured.
7 out of 10 rate for the good jokes, exceptional plots and storyline among superhero flicks, and of course, Smith's strong lead performance.

| WALL-E | I'm still trying to wrap my head around this one. Seemingly one part "Short Circuit," one part "Idiocracy," one part "2001," and one part a ham-handed screed ala "An Inconvenient Truth." I liked the "Short Circuit"-ness, LOVED the "Idiocracy"-ness, was flummoxed by the "2001"-ness, and hated the Al Gore shit. Let's be honest, PIXAR can't make a flop. But what really made me love the movie was the story between Wall-E and Eve. It seriously is the sweetest and probably the most touching relationship in a movie that I have ever seen. | Hancock | Hancock earns 3 1/2 stars, being a bit above average because Will Smith was great and hilarious in the first 40 minutes, Jason Bateman was great in the first 30 minutes, a couple of scenes are totally roll on the floor funny and the story broke off into what could have developed as awesome drama. Could have become awesome drama, but someone went cutting crazy or decided to hurry up and end the film. | WALL-E | Easily the best animated film I have ever had the pleasure of seeing. It is an engrossing advanture, absolutely mesmerizing from beginning to end. While there are many complicated and profound messages built in throughout the film's many layers, at its core it is a simple yet captivating love story. The mere fact that Pixar was able to capture such an endearing relationship and tell such a complicated tale with little to no dialogue, all done in a CG environment with CG characters, is an accomplishment which deserves recognition. 5 out of 5 for me. I'm even going to go as far as saying that up to this point, Wall-E is the best film of 2008. And based on what is coming up, the competition will need to offer something far above outstanding to even come close to Wall-E 's masterful execution. Yes. Will Smith is Hancock, the public hate him, he is a drunk and he hates the public back. Not your ordinary "Clark Kent" eh? If you know the plot, i wont divulge into it anymore...what you dont know about this film is what makes it even more enjoyable. This film IS very good indeed. Will Smith is excellent in the lead role, and he gives a fine,touching and funny, performance as Hancock. The action sequences are very well done, but it has enough of a good plotline that it doesn't over-do it on both counts. There are some genuinely funny moments and some genuinely touching ones, not often that a film can hit the spot on both. But this one does,nicely. This,for me, is Will Smith's finest movie to date. Great cast,great storyline, great performances and a wicked sense of humour make this a film that leaves you feeling satisfied at the end credits. But one piece of advice....dont read any other reviews (other than mine) before you see it....some of them are a bit liberal with the plot outline. I think she struggled with the movie because the movie takes place in outer space. Anyway, this is a very enjoyable film that is perfect for all ages. | Hancock | While the idea of a superhero being an antisocial alco was appealing... I expected more from this movie. For starters the 'chemistry' between smith and therons character was not in the least intriguing as they tried to make it, it was in fact, very confusing and already 10 minutes into the movie made you start questioning if they knew each other and how, which took you away from the movie where you should have been following it. I think the director / writer (whoever authorized the script) got a bit carried away with the aspect of 'because we can' as there were many scenes purely done because they could... its an angry superhero and i think they went too far. Hancock isn't all bad though, his blazay attitude towards heroism was quite amusing, his story was also one worth listening too, although i wish they dwelled on it for a bit longer.
